Hallagården
Hallagården is an old Mine Owner’s Residence from the 17th-Century
with a ”fornnordiskt gårdstun” (yard surrounded by houses in
an Old Norse Tradition). The estate has fulfilled many
functions during the last 400 years. It has been used as an Inn,
a Coach Station and even as a Customs Station. Today you will
find a Coffee Shop, Reception with Tourists Information, Gift
Shop
and Local History Museum on its premises. |
|
Tingsgården
Tingsgården is also an old Mine Owner’s Residence in the village
of Lekhyttan. As its name suggests “Ting” = District Court, this
was the local Court House. But today, you can book a room here,
Bed & Breakfast, in this historical building.
In one of the estates “out buildings” you will find our new
Stage. It is a place created for theatre, music as well as other
type of performances. If you enjoy the nature, you are so
welcome to take a walk around the surroundings.
We are soon to start work on our new gardens. It is going to be
a combination of the Swedish Nature incorporating some elements
from the Traditional English Gardens. We anticipate that the
work will keep us busy for several seasons before we are ready
to present the “finished product”. |

Lekhyttan
Lekhyttan is a village in the area called Bergslagen, situated
near to the mountain range of Kilsbergen and in the County of Närke. The main road E18 cuts straight through the village. The
village’s main income sources were from ironwork, farming and
trade. During the 18th-Century, you could find a
large Tradesmen’s Fair as well as a Cattle Market well
established in the village. The smelting works was made
redundant in 1776. The last smelting works was most likely built
next to the bridge in the middle of the village. There are still
a few working iron stoves, (made locally) in the main building
of Hallagården.
The Swedish Central Board of National Antiquates acknowledges
Lekhyttan because of its well-preserved village environment and
the County Administrative Board is showing a great interest in
the village’s surrounding, because of its plentiful flora, which
includes many protected plant species. Even the local stream –
Lekhytteån – is of great interest and this is particularly
because of the Red Listed Fresh Water Pearl Mussels which can be
found here. |

Lekeberg and its surrounding
The village of Lekhyttan is situated in the very small
municipality of Lekeberg – half way between the towns of Örebro
and Karlskoga in the middle of Sweden.
This is an area which was totally dominated by the mining of
iron ore and the smelting works. It is said, that the iron works
in Bergslagen, was the beginning of the industrialization of
Sweden. The iron ore was mined out of the mountain and processed
in one of the areas “hyttor” (smelting works).
This is an area were a lot of the village names ends in the word
“hyttan” i.e. Lekhyttan, Kinkhyttan, Ribbohyttan, Klunkhyttan
etc., but most traces of the smelting works have unfortunately
gone by now.
Today, it’s the nature which is of the greatest interest to the
visitors to our area. It is of great interest, particularly the
western part of our area, Kilsbergen (the Mountain Range of
Kilsbergen) with a lot of different stone formation created
by the nature during the Ice Age, remnants of ancient Hill Forts
as well as traces of Robbers Haunts. If you are familiar with
the Swedish language we can recommend Carl Anders Lindsténs
böcker om Kilsbergen,
a collection of books which describes the area in great detail.
They are suitable booth for the studying of the mountains
themselves as well as a guide on your visit to Kilsbergen.
If you live in this part of the country, you will find that it
is very common to see both roe deer and moose/elk on your daily
drive on the forest roads. Even lynx have been seen on several
occasions, but mainly during the snowy months of the year. This
is also an area which is of great interest to birdwatchers. In
particular the impressive Crane feels like an exotic visitor. We
feel rather privileged that a lot of the Cranes have decided to
return, year after year.
Fishing is another interest which brings visitors to this part
of Sweden. Here you can do Coarse Fishing as well as Put and
Take in the mountain lakes of Kilsbergen. And your
fishing card
can be bought here at Hallagården & Tingsgården. If you
are a group of “Fishing Friends”, you are welcome to hire the
whole of Tingsgården B&B, as your base during your fishing
excursion. And if the catch is great, we are only happy to keep
the fish in our deep freezer until your departure date. |

The
nature changes into a rich and open farm land when you travel
towards the east of the county.
Here you will find several ancient churches i.e. the Wooden
Church in Tångeråsa, the Knista Kyrka (church) with
interesting ceiling paintings and the Old Church of Hidinge from
the 12th-Century.
The Monastery Ruins of Riseberga can also be found within the
municipality
of Lekeberg. It is situated on a hill in the middle of the
widely stretching country side.
Here you can also find an
Amphitheatre, where a play about Arn was performed during
the summer (2008).
The above is only a ”taster”, to give you an insight in what the
area has on offer. Here at Hallagården’s Reception you will find
a good selection of brochures from the surrounding area and on
our link:
Tourist Boards
you will find the names and websites of
several of the local Tourist Boards in this part of Sweden. |
